CANCELLED – Stricter Forms: Between Poetic Constraint and Liberation: Mary Jean Chan

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mary Jean Chan is now unfortunately unable to visit us here in Aotearoa.

All ticket holders have been contacted.

In this generative creative writing workshop involving close readings and writing exercises, we will explore several stricter poetic forms, including the sestina, the specular poem and the Golden Shovel. Through reading and discussing work by Elizabeth Bishop, Julia Copus, Warsan Shire and others, we will explore how these forms can both constrain and liberate our writing. With award winning poet

Mary Jean Chan whose second book, Bright Fear was a Guardian Best Poetry Book of 2023. Chan also judged the Booker Prize in 2023.
