Two timely books reclaim the stories of pioneering women in Aotearoa history. Julia Bradshaw’s Digging Deep uncovers the forgotten women – adventurers, entrepreneurs and survivors – in the harsh nineteenth century goldfields of Aotearoa. In Great Hearts: First Ladies of Aoraki Mount Cook, Hazel Phillips writes women mountaineers from the 1870s back into our history. They join Saige England in conversation.
