We are excited to include digital experiences in our programme this year, as another way that you can take part in the festival. Appreciate the written word in new and wonderful ways. Enjoy them on their own, or to compliment your event selections. Have fun!

MEANINGFUL PLACES

30 August to 2 September

The Commuting Book, UC Digital Humanities and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu present Meaningful Places: A Digital Road Trip, an electronic adventure like no other. Experience three digital mapping projects: The Great Map of New Zealand Stories, The Big OE (Online Experience) and The Ngāi Tahu Atlas. Journey through time and virtual space, visit significant cultural and literary sites, and satisfy your wanderlust through the magic of technology and touchscreens. You can even review your 2018 WORD Christchurch favourites! This collaborative showcase runs all festival long.

Selected Red Bus Lines

The Commuting Book presents Stories on the Go, a new way to get your daily dose of words for those who can’t live without them, or who don’t usually have time to read. Find a QR code a bus, scan it and read a short piece written by a New Zealand author. Whatever your age or interests, there’ll always be something for you. The project launches at the end of July on selected bus lines, and features work from WORD Christchurch writers, with information about their upcoming festival appearances. #ReadNZ!

A POEM AND A PLACE

This immersive self-guided walking tourstarts at the Lyttelton Information Centre. Using a GPS-enabled smart-phone app, you can begin the tour at any time to experience Lyttelton through the eyes of seven poets who call the port home. The voice of actor Tom Trevella will guide you through this one-hour walk, introducing you to the haunts and history that inspired poems from Ben Brown, Gary McCormick, Ciaran Fox, Rebecca NashAndy Coyle, Sarah Amazinnia and Dan Johnson. You’ll hear the voices of the poets in the places that inspired their words. Expect a few surprises and plenty of goosebumps. All the proceeds are returned to the poets.
