Michael Stevens

Michael Stevens was raised at Bluff in a whānau noted for its persistence with pōhā-tītī, which he continues to help produce. He holds a BA(Hons), LLB and PhD in History from the University of Otago and is a member of Te Pae Kōrako, the Ngāi Tahu Archive Advisory Committee. Mike is the Awarua Representative to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu and chairs its Audit and Risk committee. He was awarded Te Kōpūnui Māori Research Award by the Royal Te Apārangi in 2020 and appointed Director of the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre at the University of Canterbury in September 2024.
