Rebecca Hawkes

Rebecca Hawkes is a queer painter-poet from sheep and beef country near Methven. Her first book Meat Lovers (Auckland University Press) was a finalist in the US Lambda Literary Awards and winner of a Laurel Prize in the UK. She edits NZ poetry journal Sweet Mammalian, holds an IIML nonfiction MA, and recently completed an MFA in yearning (and, to a lesser extent, poetry) at the University of Michigan in the USA as a Fulbright Scholar.

Her illuminated manuscript chapbook HIDE is launching locally with ngā pukapuka pekapeka, and her next collection Fool's Spring is forthcoming from Yes Yes Books and AUP in 2027.
