Juliette MacIver

Juliette MacIver is an internationally award-winning children’s author with more than 26 books published with five major publishers, including Scholastic, Gecko Press, Allen & Unwin in Aotearoa, and Walker Books and HarperCollins in Australia. Her work comprises mostly picture books, along with a middle-grade fiction series, Faelan the Wolf, released in 2023-2024. She has won many awards, including twice winner of Best Picture Book at the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults, in 2017 and 2023. She has been shortlisted for the same award on four other occasions, and has received the Storylines Notable Book Award seven times. Her picture book The Grizzled Grist Does Not Exist was awarded a White Raven in 2023, an international list of outstanding new releases of children’s books around the world.

Her books are available in seven languages across ten countries. In 2023 she completed a Master of Arts degree in linguistics, during which she won two academic prizes. She also holds two teaching qualifications and is a mother of four.

Juliette lives in a seaside suburb where she does a lot of yoga, soccer, and dancing with her children in the kitchen. She has a penchant for acquiring pointless skills: she can sing a folk song backwards, do the splits, and solve the Rubik’s cube blindfolded.
