
Barbara Dreaver
Barbara Dreaver is a multiple award winning journalist who has worked in print, radio and television across the region. Of I-Kiribati, Cook Islands and New Zealand descent she has been the Pacific Correspondent for 1 News for more than two decades. Her journalism career, which stretches over 35 years, has included covering two coups in Fiji, civil unrest, the Samoa measles epidemic, natural disasters and numerous in depth regional and domestic investigations. Her work has resulted in the exposure of corruption leading to changes in legislation and policy, arrests and government investigations. She was detained in Nauru and Fiji and banned by Fiji's military government for doing her job. In 2024 she became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Investigative Journalism and Services to Pacific Communities. Be Brave - the Life of a Pacific Correspondent is her first book.
