A well-informed population has been key to New Zealand’s successful Covid-19 response. Yet outside this time of crisis public knowledge has shifted rapidly under the impact of vast quantities of information. From a weakened public interest media to attack politics and extremism, it has never been clearer that what we know, how we know it and what we do with that knowledge impacts our democracy. Join journalist Sally Blundell, Member of Parliament Golriz Ghahraman, and researcher Sacha McMeeking – contributors from Freerange Press’s Public Knowledge – as they discuss future challenges, the state of our public knowledge, the implications for democracy and what we can do better.
