A FESTIVAL BUILT ON LOVE
Mā rau rika a rau hua ka puta
With many hands, great things can be achieved
We are so grateful to people from Christchurch and around New Zealand who have helped our festival grow so much since we relaunched in the challenging post-earthquake period. WORD Christchurch is a non-profit charitable trust, and our festival has been built on love: by our staff, who have worked long hours, by our wonderful volunteers, and of course by our audience, who purchase tickets, keep coming back for more and spreading the word.
Our patrons and supporters are our champions. Not only do they personally help us achieve our goals, they also excite others with their passion and enthusiasm.
Like many arts organisations, we are facing a significant drop in the much-needed revenue to keep the organisation running and to keep our festival and events coming.
If you value the work we do, and want to help secure the future of our events in Christchurch, we are asking that you consider making a one-off or monthly tax-deductible donation, or sign on as a supporter or a patron.
Everyone who joins the WORD family has the chance to have their say in the festival – who you would like to see, what you’d like to see discussed, and what your favourite things in the festival are that you’d like to see return. We value your input to help us create welcoming events that value writers and audience alike.
Your support will help us:
* Continue to value writers and provide them with a platform and an income. Writers are always being asked to work for free: we want to compensate all writers who appear in our festival as much as we can. Each festival we also commission new work from writers to be presented as part of the festival.
* Present accessible events to our audience, and grow our community outreach, with many of our events free to attend.
* Support school children, from primary through to secondary school, to participate in our FREE schools’ programmes to expose them to fantastic work and to foster a love of reading, writing and performance. Last festival more than 2000 students benefitted from out programmes and we will continue reaching more.
* Champion human rights, provide a platform to discuss urgent global issues, and help create a kinder, more well-informed community
And much more…
