Born on Manhattan Island (NYC), Jessica Howland Kany has lived on Rakiura Stewart Island for twenty years. Jessica is a graduate of Washington University in Missouri, was the editor of the Stewart Island News from 2005 until 2022, and her writing has featured in Running Times, North & South, New Zealand Geographic and more.
